He is an iconic Apple executive. Steve Jobs is best remembered in his lifetime as the man on a black turtle-neck shirt during Apple’s product launches in the past. Above all, he is known for introducing product innovations for the benefit of the consumers.
Steve Jobs lost his battle against cancer. Apple made the announcement few hours as i wrote this post and said:
...Apple is "deeply saddened” to announce that Mr. Jobs had passed away on Wednesday. "Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives,” the company said. “The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."
When Jobs stepped down as CEO and became Chairman of the Board of Apple in August, i was honestly suspecting it was due to his deteriorating health condition. He went a surgery for pancreatic cancer in 2004 and received a liver transplant in 2009.
Upon stepping down from his post in Apple, many had made tributes of him online calling his brilliance in innovating good products for the consumers as incomparable.
Jobs, with namesake Steve Wozniak, co-founded Apple some 20 years ago and launched the first Macintosh computer in 1984. He abruptly exited from Apple the following year after a power struggle but returned in 1996 and lifted Apple from near-dead to its present status.
While the tech-world described him as a visionary, his family said Steve “cherished his family”.
An ABC News Report says: “Industry watchers called Jobs a master innovator — perhaps on a par with Thomas Edison — changing the worlds of computing, recorded music and communications.”
Jobs, is behind the idea of creating the iPod, iPhone, iPad, iMac, and iTunes that sets the trend in consumer products.
Here are some of what other prominent people in the tech-world can say about Steve Jobs:
BILL GATES, Founder-Microsoft-- “The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely.” PAUL ALLEN, Co-Founder-Microsoft-- "a unique tech pioneer and auteur who knew how to make amazingly great products." VIC GUNDOTRA, Google-- "Even when I worked for 15 years for Bill Gates at Microsoft, I had a huge admiration for Steve and what Apple had produced. But in the end, when I think about leadership, passion and attention to detail, I think back to the call I received from Steve Jobs on a Sunday morning in January. It was a lesson I'll never for get. CEOs should care about details. Even shades of yellow. On a Sunday."
Gundotra recalled a call on a Sunday from Steve Jobs asking him if Apple could work with Google to correct the color of the second O of the Google icon on the iPhone.
TIM COOK, CEO-Apple-- "Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. "Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple." MARK ZUCKERBERG, Founder-Facebook--Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world. I will miss you.

It’s not new that China faces calls for boycott of its products in some parts of the world. Lately, in the Philippines a call for boycott of China products is made “to send a strong signal” to Beijing that Filipinos are not happy of the Chinese bullying over a disputed West Philippine sea.
Albay Governor Joey Salceda says we don’t owe much from China. He said we imported $7 billion from China while exporting only $6 billion to the Chinese in 2010. However, imports could actually rise to $10 billion because of so many smuggled items from China reaching our market.
Can we afford to boycott China products?
Even the European authorities know that China products are all over Europe and some parts of the world. From toys to appliances–these are all made in China. I’ve got some couple of appliances and devices at home that are Made in China:
A couple of popular brands have either put-up a factory in China or has contracted some Chinese companies to manufacture parts for its products.
Apple has contracted Foxconn International Holdings for its iPhones, iPads, and Macbooks.
Nokia has a company in Beijing–Beijing Nokia Mobile Telecommunications Ltd.
Lenovo is a consortium between IBM of America and a Chinese Company.
…and many more.
The iPhone 4 is already out. People are going to buy the new release from Apple to upgrade their unit. However, there are those who don’t even have the previous versions of the iPhone. Like me, i don’t sport an iPhone. Why i did not buy an iPhone? Maybe, these are some of my reasons (sour graping?) :
ORIGINAL iPHONE IS 2G ONLY
When the original iPhone was introduced in 2007 and released to the public middle of that year i wasn’t excited though. It was a 2G unit only while the rest of the popular brands, especially Nokia, had already their 3G models.
However, the birth of iPhone paved the way for the release of several smart phones by popular mobile phone makers.
LACKS SOME FEATURES OF A SMART PHONE
Aside from being a 2G model, the original iPhone lacked at that time some necessary features of a smart phone such as: the phone’s camera is only at 2MP while other brands had made 3.2MP & 5MP as their standards; the storage capacity was limited to 16GB while other smart phones were already expanding up to 32GB.
NO BUDGET
Honestly, i don’t have extra money enough to buy an iPhone. The unit price is very prohibitive to many. While the iPhone in the U.S. has been priced at $199 & $299, the price is multiplied many times in the Philippines. Globe–the exclusive distributor of the iPhone in the country– priced the original iPhone as much as P45,000 for the 16GB before they slashed the price.
3G iPHONE IS NOT EVEN ATTRACTIVE
When iPhone released its 3G version in July 2008, many were still reluctant in buying the unit. In fact, it was reported Globe is not able to reach its sales target of the iPhone. Almost a year later, Apple updated the 3G iPhone into a 3GS version upgrading the RAM, CPU and GPU. Still, for a Filipino, having an iPhone is exorbitant.
iPhone 4 IS NOT A 4G
Many guessed these past weeks that the new version of the iPhone is a 4G (Fourth Generation) using the 4G technology. However, what Steve Jobs introduced on June 7, 2010 was an iPhone 4–a 3G phone with an updated and improved features on it. The biggest addition to the iPhone 4 is the FaceTime video conferencing where one can make a video call using only a Wi-Fi connection.
Here’s Steve Jobs demonstrating the iPhone 4.
