REVIEW: Counterfeit Beats HD Headphones Are Worth a Try!

Online and Offline Beats by Dr.Dre high-definition headphones are counterfeited worldwide. Beats Electronics, LLC has come out with a list of online sites where imitation of Beats headphones are sold. Beats also offered the authorized dealers of its products in their page.

VERIFY BEFORE YOU BUY

Beats has this verification tool in their site to determine whether your Beat product is genuine or a counterfeit.

One indication of a genuine Beats product is the 10-character serial number inscribed on the product and in the box.

My own “Beats SOLO HD” on-ear headphone has not met the verification requirement. It has no inscribed serial number while the digits in the box don’t correspond to the required 10-character serial number. The picture in the left below is the original Black SOLO HD with a red trim around its pad while the counterfeited one in the next image has no red trim and pad is smaller.

The genuine one has a Monster ControlTalk on its cable for iPod playback control and iPhone and any music phone hands-free calling.

The genuine Beats SOLO HD is worth P15,500 while the counterfeit like the one i bought is only sold at P500. But is the latter worth a try with its very cheap price? The answer–why not?

BASS RESPONSE

For now, i can’t tell the difference of the audio experience of the genuine and the counterfeit Beats SOLO HD until i can try the original unit. However, off-hand the counterfeit is worth its price–P500. It has a good deep bass response though the high sounds are not that really good. Mid-range is somewhat clear but not so crispy and vibrant. Nevertheless, i can truly feel a distortion-free bass even at high-volume setting.

FORM FACTOR

Beats SOLO HD is an on-ear headphone that fits just in your ear not over your ear. However, i could feel discomfort and even pain on the outer part of my ear due to the pressure caused by its headband pressing the ear pads.

SPECIFIC FEATURES and APPLICATIONS

My Beats SOLO HD is good at noise cancellation and noise isolation that i couldn’t hear background noise. Once fitted on my ear, it perfectly isolates me from ambient sounds.

It’s cable is directly wired to each of the earpiece instead of a 3.5mm jack that can be plug in and out of the headphones.

By the way, Beats SOLO HD is powered headphones but mine is not. It has no ControlTalk for iPhones and iPod.

Why a WordPress Paid Upgrade?

This blog is more than four years old. It underwent several face lifts using different themes offered free by various WordPress theme developers. But it never has a paid upgrade like premium theme, custom design, space upgrade, video press, and custom domain.

PREMIUM THEMES

I like the current theme of this blog–iTheme2 by Themify. It’s an Apple-inspired design which best fit for technology blog. For now, it’s the perfect choice for my blog after trying to wear several free themes in the past.

There are premium themes ranging $45-$100 per purchase. I opted not to spend a dime for a premium theme and just settled for an appropriate free themes several times.

CUSTOM DESIGN

Your free theme can still be optimized and you can also design your blog according to what you want by subscribing to a custom design upgrade. With the custom design upgrade, you can customize the fonts and have full control on how your blog should look according to the theme design. Custom design is for subscription at $30 per year.

SPACE UPGRADE

Any free wordpress.com blog like mine comes with a free 3-gigabyte storage for all uploaded files and images. The space can be increased with the space upgrade on subscription basis. WordPress has recently doubled the space upgrade on same subscription rate as shown in the table below. With the space upgrade you can already upload music aside from files and images directly to WordPress.

VIDEOPRESS

Your free wordpress.com blog doesn’t directly host video files. However, you can embed players from other free video sites on your blog. But sometimes external sites like YouTube remove the video without your knowledge and thus inconvenient to your readers. Subscribing to VideoPress @ $59.97 per year solves this problem. Watch the video for more:

CUSTOM DOMAIN

With custom domain upgrade you can choose a personalize URL for your blog like juntariman.me domain name instead of juntariman.wordpress.com for free WordPress blogs. The cost is $17 per year for registration and mapping. However, dot-me (.me) extension is worth $24 a year. Aside from what are enumerated in the note below, custom domain upgrade gives your blog a chance to be monetized through WordAds.

WordPress.com has also offered a promo bundle on upgrades @ $99 only that includes Custom Domain, VideoPress, 10GB Space Upgrade, Custom Design, and No Ads.

My choice of upgrades for my blog are the Custom Domain and Space Upgrade which give me the chance to monetize my blog and provide me an option to post direct audio player anywhere in my post.

Welcome 2012 (Year of the Dragon)–MyYEAR!!!

I started this post with a positive note on its title– “Welcome 2012 (Year of the Dragon)–MyYear!!!”. It’s because the two previous years of the dragon– 1988 & 2000 were so kind to me. Both were fruitful years for my career in ABS-CBN Corporation.

After leaving RPN/DyKC in early 1988 and after having a short stint with Sun*Star Daily, i was invited to join ABS-CBN Ch. 3 Cebu where i have stayed for about half of my life. My career as a TV journalist flourished during those years and was capped with a promotion as the News Manager for ABS-CBN-Davao.

My Years of the Dragon were not good only to my career, i was also lucky in some possessions like winning big items in raffle draws in 1988 and i had purchased my first car in 2000 through the company’s car plan.

On the other hand, with barely five hours before New Year strikes, i had to reminisce the unfortunate events hounding me in 2011:

My father "Nene" passed away on Feb. 22 due to liver disease. He was confined in the hospital a month earlier and the family was advised by the doctor he couldn't stay longer.

July 23 & 25, i underwent two surgical procedures to remove the gallstones and my contracted gallbladder. It was my first hospital confinement since i was 3 years old. I spent a whopping P240k+ in hospital bills and related expenses. It left me almost bankrupt. Thanks to my family, relatives, friends and ABS-CBN for the support.

I had also two misfortunes during the year that i just kept it to myself. Again, i lost my father and i lost my gallbladder in 2011. And i lost two other important persons in my life during the year.

As i am moving on with optimism in 2012, i wish i could decipher the good signs that the black water dragon are carrying with all through out the year. As i’ve said, my Years of the Dragon have always been favorable to my career and some possessions.

Here are some of the good signs of 2012, as i collated in some sources:

  • year of empowerment
  • rooster, monkey and rat are the luckiest as they are most compatible with the dragon
  • horse, ox and dog are said unlucky animal symbols as they are less compatible with the dragon (it’s an irony for me since i am a fire horse.)

The Year of the Black Water Dragon officially starts on January 23, 2012 and ends on February 9, 2013 . There are popular beliefs about the year 2012 ranging from spiritually transformative to the apocalyptic. The latter is referring to the so-called “end of the world” on December 21, 2012 based on the Mayan Calendar.

I have a good post about 2012 that i wrote in 2009.

How the Tech-World Celebrates Christmas!!!

I have collected herein the various ways Christmas has been celebrated all over the tech-world. Firstly, even the Pope has celebrated the Christmas Eve that was seen live on TV worldwide.

SingTel (Singapore Telecommunications Limited) celebrates Christmas with world record-breaking mass gift exchange. About 4,385 participants mostly coming from its prepaid customers in the Philippines, Taiwan, Hongkong and Singapore brought their wrapped gifts for exchange at the event hoping to make a new world record for gift exchanges.

Blockbuster film Arthur Christmas calculates how Santa could exactly delivers all those gifts by Christmas morning.

For more than 50 years, NORAD — the North American Aerospace Defense Command — has used its high-tech missile-tracking systems to track Santa's progress during his annual Christmas Eve flight around the world.
