Local and foreign tourists in Bohol will be treated for the first time with one of the fastest growing sports in the world and in Asia–the Wakeboarding during the Bohol Wakefest 2012 at the Pandanon Island in Getafe, Bohol on May 25-June 25.
This one-month Wakeboarding experience is organized by The Board Shop, a Singapore-based company selling premium wake gear shop in Southeast Asia in coordination with the local government unit of Getafe, Bohol.
In a news conference in Cebu City this morning, Michael Tan, General Manager of The Board Shop said they chose Bohol as the venue for the Wakeboarding event in the Visayas because of the beauty of the island province. Hector Tugoy, Tourism Officer of Getafe stressed that everyone in the island barangay of Pandanon shall be benefited of the event to include small vendors and transport drivers because of the expected influx of visitors.
Tan said the investment for the month-long Wake fest is about 3-million pesos while they’re not setting a target income in return for the investment. Wakeboarder shall be charged P600 for half-day use of the facility and P900 for its whole day use. Around 50 to 60 wakeboarders will be accommodated daily in the facility that uses a German-made cable park system–Sesitec System 2.0, a straight-line two-tower cable system that span up to 200 meters apart.
The cables will be installed near the shoreline of the one-hectare white-beach of Pandanon–an island barangay of the municipality of Getafe. The wakeboarding facility is only the third in the Philippines. The other two are located in Luzon.
Wakeboarding is a surface water sport which combined the skills of water skiing, snow boarding and surfing techniques. A wakeboard can be pulled by a boat, cable system, or a winch over a body of water, according to The Board Shop.
